Marriage is defined as the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. Notice how it only mentions being united to a member of the opposite sex. Most people would not consider a relationship between a man and another man or two women to be immoral. What harm would come out of a same-sex marriage for people not actually getting married? If two people feel that special bond with another person, no matter what their sex may be marriage should be open for all to enjoy. Gay marriage has been a problem plaguing our nation for years and the only reasoning behind allowing free marriage has a religious bias and that bias is the one thing keeping gays in the dark. Being shunned from the rest of society when it comes to ones sexual orientation and the topic of marriage just does not seem right in a “free” country. Marriage is essentially the bonding of two people into one person financially, and leisurely. If two people want to make joint financial decisions and live their lives together, then why not let them do it? This action causes outsiders no harm, and in America making a law on the basis of a personal vendetta is unconstitutional. Just because certain political members are strongly against the gay lifestyle, they condemn others from living it, even though it has no affect on them. Just because we as individuals don’t choose to live a certain lifestyle, doesn’t mean we need to condemn others from living it. There is no factually right or wrong way to live, there are only opinions.
